I am thinking about buying a bunny rabbit. Is there any thing I should be concerned about? Procautions or safety tips?? I went into a pet store and fell in love with this white and tan rabbit. Also will my cat mess with it or try to harm it. Any information will be helpful. Thanks in advance
I hate how a bunch of people are answering no because ‘they stink’.. If you were using the bathroom in the same spot day after day after day without being able to get rid of it until someone came and cleaned it up for you, you’d smell too I’m sure.
Rabbits are amazing animals but take so much time and effort to look after properly. And rabbits don’t bite if you don’t hurt them and if they’ve been handled a lot. They may nibble you to test you out but they won’t actually chomp down on you unless they’re scared or hurt. Easy ways to make sure you don’t get bit.. Never pick your rabbit up or pull it from it’s cage. That’s supposed to be it’s safe spot. Don’t ever hit it if it does something you don’t like. A simple NO! works fine. And don’t tease it. and there ya go, you won’t get bitten.
Rabbits need a large cage, never buy a cage from a pet store as they’re too small. I also believe bunnies should be indoor pets only. They only live about 3 years when kept in a hutch outside but can live 10+ years if housed inside. My rabbit’s housed in a cage like this except the loft thing is a 2 x 1 grids. http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/4051
or you could build a massive cage like this one. :]

Just get the grids from Walmart, and some corrugated plastic from home depot and put it all together. Also reinforce it with zip ties or whatever because the connectors don’t stay on very well.
Rabbits also need to have time out of their cage for at least an hour a day no matter how large their cage is.
They can be litter trained which makes cage cleaning so much easier! You just take out the litter box and dump the contents out in a trash bag, rinse it out and dry it, refill it with bedding and you’re done. You’ll need a small cat litter box though as those tiny corner ones your bunny will outgrow in like a month. And rabbits can’t use cat litter, they need something like Yesterdays News bedding which is a recycled paper bedding that controls odors pretty good and is super ubsorbant. :]
Rabbits need wooden toys or wooden bird toys to chew on to keep their teeth down. Or even some untreated apple tree branches would work.
They need a place in their cage to hide in, that doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy it a big plastic igloo. You can just use a box if you’d like. :] make sure it’s big enough for the rabbit to turn around in though.
They need some toys as well, cat balls withthe bell inside work well. and you can ball up pieces of paper for the bunny to grab and throw around.
Rabbits aren’t cuddly pets unless they’re the huge Flemish Giant rabbits. Some don’t mind patting but most -hate- being picked up and will struggle until dropped or put down. So if you want a cuddly pet, I wouldn’t get a rabbit. Try a cat instead.
They eat rabbit pellets and timothy hay, so make sure you’ve got food and hay in the bunny cage 24/7 as well as a water bottle or dish.
Rabbits can bond very strongly with their owners which always makes me feel good knowing my rabbit loves me even if it’s just because I feed her and let her hop around my room a lot. :]
Oh and if the bunny you like at the pet store is female she basically needs to be spayed at 6 months. 80% of female rabbits die of cancer before the age of 5 if not spayed. It also helps to get males neutered so they don’t spray around your house. It’s also easier to litter train a rabbit once it’s been spayed or neutered.
So yeah, Rabbits really are a ton of work, but so so so worth it.
and your cat should be fine with the rabbit, just supervise them when together at all times. My cats and rabbit get along fine with each other. The bunny likes chasing the cats around my room when she’s out of her cage. :] hehe.
Hope I helped.
Oh yeah and why don’t you check your local shelter or petfinder.com before buying that rabbit? There’s so many homeless bunnies everywhere needing homes. But if you decide to purchase the rabbit in the pet store make sure you get it checked by a vet within the first week you get it. Often rabbits that are in pet stores are sick from not being cared for properly.
EDIT: yes rabbits do leave little poops everywhere. :] That’s them marking their territory. But it’s easier to pick up a few little poops here and there or vaccuming them up then having to have your carpet washed every week because of a male rabbit spraying EVERYTHING isn’t it?
No you shouldn’t. They stink so bad! You have to clean up their cage about 3 times a week becuase they are so messy, and most people who get pets like that get bored of them after a few months.

No you should not buy one. Go to your local animal shelter and adopt one that needs a home from there.

I don’t know much about rabbits, but my grandma has one and her cat tried to take a swing at it a couple of times so you should really keep an eye on the cat the first few days (if you buy the rabbit) and you should see what kind of environment the rabbit likes the most.

i think that dogs or cats would be much easier than a bunny rabbit. and if your getting a bunny rabbit or any animal.. you should adopt one because buying is a waste. bunny rabbits leave annoying pellets of crap everywhere.. i know.. i used to have one.

There is no way of knowing how your current pets will interact with a new one. The only way is the trial and error. Just be there for the first few visits befor eyou are comfortable leaving your cat alone with the bunny. Rabbits are nice pets for caring responsible owners. If you do not keep up on them they can be smelly and become overwhelming. Only basice problems with some rabbits is they like to chew on wires. So just make sure they are not in a position to electrocute themselves or worse kill your computer..lol good luck

Bunny rabbits are a great pet to have. I have one myself. But make sure you hold it and play with it when it is young so when its older it will be used to the attention. Make sure you clean their cage at least twice a week because they can get really smelly cages. A little something to help the oder is cat littler for their littler box. Make sure you cut their nails, because I haven’t cut my rabbits nails and it hurts the rabbits feet while walking. I have a dog and he likes my rabbit but my rabbit doesn’t like him. So i think your cat shall be fine around the rabbit. But over all rabbits are a great and loving pets.

You can keep rabbits in the house but they leave little "presents" everywhere.
but rabbits are awesome pets, they don’t make any noise.
They only smell bad if you don’t clean them out.
They love LOVE being cuddled.
There great fun to play with, they like jumps and playing football.
My only advice would be GET A FEMALE. XD
My rabbit has never tried to bite me EVER and she isn’t the friendliest rabbit I’ve met. there awesome x3

No, rabbits are a heap load of work. I should know. Had one for almost a year. It took a **** all over our basement floor. We had to keep it inside it’s cage for 3 days for it to learn it’s lesson. Doesn’t mean the same thing for that specific rabbit. It could be the most stubborn rabbit you’ve ever seen. I’ve had, what 6 pets in total before? At most. It was still hard to take care of it. We had the bunny and my first cat at the same time for a while, there was an occasional bite, from the rabbit that is. That kitten was the friendliest thing ever. So, no,no,no,no.

Yeah you should totally get a rabbit if you feel like you can handle it plus a cat. the only thing with rabbits is that you can’t keep their cage in a small room or it stinks in a day. another thing is that they chew a lot so you’d have to provide lots of chew toys for them or they will get bored and chew everything. a rabbit and a cat CAN be introduced to each other because they have very similar body language. here’s a couple of links for you to check out.
