I just had some questions because i’ve never gone tanning before.
What’s the price range generally?
Do you HAVE to wear underwear since I know they clean the bed before you go in?
I wanted to put a playboy bunny sticker on the bottom left of my stomach so I can get a "tanning tatto", is that safe?
Are there any tricks or warnings about tanning that you have discovered personally or heard about? (besides skin cancer)
How long does it take to get a noticeable tan?
How long do I have to be in the tanning bed for, safety and effective wise?
Thanks for any help you can give!

The place I go is $7.00 for a bed, and $9.00 for the booth. The booth is stand up and the bed is lay down. If you have the choice, Personally I like the bed.
I always go naked. They clean the beds, and if you have any doubt about it, as them if they would mind if you wiped down the bed yourself.
I always have my playboy bunny sticker on. ALWAYS!!! Yeah its safe!
To get a noticable tan you will have to go a couple times. Make the first time you go only a couple mins becaue you dont want to burn. As for a maximum time, your tanning salon will have a max time to go in for. If they dont for some reason, then go in for 20 max!

Remember tanning in a bed, even though it is the same rays, is COMPLETLEY different then laying in the sun. The bulbs are closer, and there for you tan faster. If you feel your self getting hot, then get out so you dont burn.
As for tricks, you may get lines from the bulbs… To prevent this (this worked for me best) lay on your back for 1/2 the time, and then flipp over and lay on your stomach for the rest.
And as for warnings, ALWAYS wear the tanning glasses.. If you are worried about getting a line becuawse of the strap, then just rest them on your eyes, and keep your eyes closed. It is so bad for your eyes, and the skin ar ound your eyes is so much thinner than anywhere else on your face it will burn easier.. AND THAT HURTS!!! I HAVE BEEN THERE..
Also, use a tannin lotion that has bronzer for your base tan. when yuou get that, use one that has an accelorator. But becarefull with this too.. I am allergic to them.. you might be too. Every one is different in the way they tan… and the way they go about it.. But I hope i helped you a little bit!!!! Have fun with it, and RELAX!! It is sooooo relaxing!

  3. The first time you go, don’t stay in long or you’ll just burn! The people who work there should be able to determine how long you can stay in based on your skin type & complexion. There is nothing harmful about a "tanning tatoo", just please be aware of the cancer risks! It takes about a week, maybe a week and a half to get a noticeable tan. And I would wear undies, b/c those beds are never really THAT clean. They just spray, wipe, and done.

  4. Please DON’T do it. Skin cancer should be enough of a caution flag to keep you out of a tanning bed…not to mention eye problems like glaucoma, signs of early aging, etc. I used to tan and I have stopped since I learned about my mother’s severe case of melanoma. TRUST me you do not want to deal with something like that. I have a great tan year round by getting Mystic Tans which are available at most tanning salons for about 10-20$. In between sessions I use Tan Towels (www.tantowel.com) which keep me looking bronze and summery all year round!

But, if you still chose to tan it can cost anywhere from about $3-15.00 per session. Most salons have a package availble which will save you a couple bucks. I never wore underwear in the beds and using a sticker tattoo will not hurt you anymore than tanning in general will. It depends on your skin type as to how quickly your tan with show. Usually after 2 to 3 tans you will see a result. Tanning beds all have different wattage so the specialist at your salon will evaluate how long you will need to stay in the bed!

  5. price is normally $6-10 per tan. but they always have deals
    you dont have wear anything
the sticker is fine. it just makes it so you can see your tan.
if you want to tan faster use a good tanning lotion. you can get them at the tanning salon.
and each person tans differently so you cant really tell how long or how many times you will have to tan.
and each bed is different with the time that your allowed to tan for.

  6. There is a skin parasite that is transferred from tanner to tanner through the bed. The heat from the bed helps this parasite to breed. Wipe down this bed with their cleaning solution from top to bottom, front to back before getting in. Don’t count on the staff or the person before you to do this. Even if you think they did it, do it again yourself. Once you have this skin disorder, it is HARD to get rid of. I have it. It is called Tinea Versicolor and it discolors your skin in patches, like when you have a tan, these patches will be much lighter than your tan, and in the winter when my skin color is normal, the patches appear darker. You can google it on the web. The only way to control it is by taking a prescription med which doesn’t clear it up for good and this medication causes other people side effects, or stewing in a medicated shampoo like Selsun Blue. It is A LOT of trouble, you have to stand in the shower for about 10 minutes and then wash it off. Also, a lot of people develop an allergy to UV rays from using tanning beds. If you itch intensely after your first session, I would give it a week before trying to do it again. This allergic reaction can last for the rest of your life or clear up on its own. I have BOTH of these. I have to build up immunity to the sun slowly at the beginning of summer and it finally stops. It is hives, basically. Wear your glasses/goggles, DON’T stay in for longer than 7-10 minutes your first time. You will be sorry if you burn. You will have to wait a little over a week for the burn to peel and heal and then start all over, which means you wasted your first session. The tattoo is fine to use. Some salons require bottoms, you will just need to ask the staff.

I really would advise against tanning and go with either the spray tan or using a makeup bronzer on your face. Really, it is the winter time, who is walking around with bare arms and legs anyway? If you must wear a dress, the makeup bronzer can be used on your neck/collar bones for a "tanned" look.

  8. Mystic tans are the safer option, but if you choose otherwise, here are some pointers. I used to work at a tanning salon. The amount of time you go will depend on a few things. What is your skin tone? Do you tan easily or always burn? If you burn over and over and never get a tan, then I would suggest you don’t tan in a bed. You will burn just the same as if you were in the sun. I would only go 4 or 5 minutes (NOT in a super bed) the first 3 or 4 times. Many people go 4 or 5 minutes the first time and feel like they didn’t get anything, so they try to bump it up to 10 minutes the second time and FRY!!! Don’t be tempted to do this. The second and third times you tan will be much more intense than the first time. Just take it easy. I would not begin by going daily. Go every other day or every third day for a few weeks and you will gradually get a base tan. The people at the salon will (if it is a good salon) guide you on the time you should go based on how long you’ve gone previously and if you are burning yourself. Of course, the safest way is the Mystic. Maybe go a few times to get a base tan and then proceed with Mystic (spray) tans. If done correctly, they can make your skin look beautifully tan. OH, and ALWAYS use lotion on your body. It is important to keep it moisturized…. you don’t have to buy the incredibly over priced tanning lotions. They do help, but it helps even to use a daily moisturizing body lotion.

  9. Welcome to the tanning world! You can wear underwear if you want to. I do not because I do not want to have tan lines. Tanning prices differ so just check with local tanning salons however cheaper does not always mean better. As far as tanning itself you should go Three days a week with days off between tanning sessions. Start off going 8 minutes if you dont burn increase your time a few minutes each week until you reach the max which is 20 minutes. If you happen to burn do not tan until you are no longer red. Make sure to wear googles and keep your skin moisturised. Happy Tanning!!! :-)
