was that safe? its was only for a few minutes like five total probally less…does that cause some type of permanent damage since it was my first time tanning no one at the gym told me any safety recommendations
Your risk isn’t from one exposure, it’s cumulative. Just as with the natural sun, the more exposure the higher the risk of cataracts and damage to your eyes. The risk with tanning beds is significantly higher because the intensity is higher than the sun, which is why you can get a tan in minutes.
Wear your goggles next time, and always when you’re out in the sun. The numbers of people with cataracts is way higher now that the ozone layer is thinner. Don’t wait for the govt to tell you about the risks and necessary precautions. Their response to risks like this is chronically slow.
its safe

I think you’ll be OK this time but you really shouldn’t do that to your skin. You may be sorry in the long run.

its told not to be safe.

If it would hurt you they would probably be strict about keeping your eyes closed. But if your not having any side effects you will probably be fine.

i never wear goggles when i tan and i usually tan for 20 mins and i can see just fine

IT CAN HURT YOUR EYES. DON’T DO IT ANY MORE. THAT GYM SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU THE PROCEDURES. THEY HAVE TO BY LAW I THOUGHT. I COULD BE WRONG. IF YOU ARE CONCERN TALK TO YOU EYE CARE PROFESSIONAL AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY.

lol I did that the first time I tanned too But I was fine .. Dont worry about It just next time dont forget to wear them.

that is very bad. you could do serious damage to your retinas. and tanning beds are bad anyway hopefully you don’t end up blind with skin cancer.

Its NOT safe but you’ll probably be ok since it was 5 minutes, just dont do it again, you can cause serious damage to your sensitive eyes.
its still not safe if you leave your eyes closed, the UV lights can go through your eyelids

its ok once in a while, but b careful. my friend’s eyes got sunburned one time from bein in there too long and accidently opening her eyes (she was in the lay down bed and she fell asleep and sleeps with her eyes open). i am dead serious and not making this up! it looked like she had pink eye for like three weeks and everything was really dark she said. just b careful!

Don’t make a habit of opening your eyes in a tanning bed. That’s just ridiculous. You aren’t going to go blind or anything, and there very likely won’t be any long term damage. Would you stare at the sun for five minutes? I don’t think you would. Don’t stare at the lightbulbs. Tanning beds put out a tremendous amount of UV rays that, when your eyes are exposed to too much concentration, it can and will have negative results. Like the saying goes, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Except UV rays aren’t really a good thing… Be careful. Do a search on the internet for a basic guideline to proper tanning bed procedures, if your gym/tanning salon doesn’t provide such.

Your eyes got blasted with some nice wonderful UV radiation.
Doing it once isn’t going to blind you but even for short times it certainly does produce some amount of damage. Don’t do it again or you’ll have eye problems in addition to eventual skin cancer.

It’s fine if it was just this time. Do not make a habit out of it, because it can harm your eyes.. but once will not hurt you.

hmm… you looked around and stuff. didnt that hurt your eyes? my mom did that once but she looked around for longer than that cause she didnt know and she went to the doctor and he said she could have went blind. i dont think it will be like that for you so dont worry. but seriously. looking around in the tanning bed is like looking into the sun. next time keep your eyes closed. and dont get in the bed very long. its bad for your skin and if you always go your will start to look plastic. (i aint preaching cause i go to the tanning bed too but it sounds like you need some advice about the tanning bed)

very intense light can cause scarring or pigmentation disorders on the retina of the eye. There are several factors to consider. The intensity of the light, how long your eyes are open and the general health of your eyes. It’s impossible to say if your eyes are fine or damaged. It would be a guess. A visit to an ophthalmologist will let you know if any damage was done. If you are very concerned, the doctor can photograph your retina and then compare it to your retina during a follow up visit. This will let him or her know if the damage was temporary, permanent or if it is getting worse.

The eyes will be damaged and five minutes is not a short time. Your skin is the issue. Stay away from tanning centres. skin cancer is scary and there are plenty of people dying from them.
The gym shouldn’t have a tanning facility but the fact that they do they are loonies if they allow unsupervised sessions as their insurance company will be having fits if they knew.

Its ok just dont do it anymore.
