I have never laid in a tanning bed before but I am going to start soon, and I was wondering which tanning lotion would be best recommended since I have a fair skin tone? Thanks! (And Afordable)

Try Luminary by Designer Skin. Wonderful lotion. You can look up reviews by searching it but, I personally absolutely LOVE this lotion. It does not leave that "after tan smell" instead a very pleasant perfume smell. I was a shade darker after two days of use. and whats even better is that it makes your skin feel unbelievable to touch…Seriously UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

I want to start going to the tanning beds (I know they’re bad for you). How often would I need to go to keep up my tan?

I don’t understand why everyone preaches about how bad tanning is – you are going to go regardless of what they say. It really isn’t that horrible for you. A lot of things a person does is "bad".

It depends on how dark you want to be, but maybe go once or twice a week. Ask a worker, they know best.

And the tan you get from a tanning bed doesnt look bad, depending on your skin type. If you are fair skinned, you may just turn red. But, I don’t look orange AT ALL.

Make sure you invest into a nice tanning lotion too. Get one for your face and for your body. Hydrated skin tans better.

What is your opinion of guys using tanning beds ?

I’m a straight male who has used tanning beds before. I know a lot of people think it’s weird and I live in a more rural area so people think it means you’re gay. Although the cast of Jersey Shore uses them. Sometimes I’ve felt weird going to the tanning place since I’m a guy. What’s your view?

And yes I know it’s bad for you. But I’m not asking about that.

It’s only wierd if you’re skinny. Skinny guys who tan are always gay. Muscular guys who tan are only sometimes gay. And every guy on the Jersey Shore is a closet homo.

Joking aside – I’m a well built straight male and I’ve used tanning beds before. It’s not wierd to want to look more appealing to the opposite sex. Women do in fact go for the tall dark and handsome look – and if you need to tan to achieve that then go for it. It’s only truly gay if you get those sticker things that leave a tan mark of a heart or star or something anywhere on your body.
Good luck with the ladies!!

first time going to a tanning bed?

I’m going tanning for the first time & have found a salon & made an appointment….i know all about talking to the clerk about my skin tone and the length of time i should spend inside…etc, but what id like to know is what the actually percedure is….like how you get into and out of the bed…plus do you tan with a bathing suit or nothing….thnks

I DONT CARE~if ur going to lecture me on the safety problems with beds dont bother!!

okay ive done this plenty of times.
first, the salon should have sunscreen in there. you should apply a dab of sunscreen to every mole you have, to reduce the skin cancer.. if they dont have sunscreen you need some, also apply a little to your bum cheeks.as you are laying down (naked) flat on your back, so your bum cheeks are pressed on the bed, and trust me if you dont put sunscreen on then they will go red raw. and you honestly wont be able to sit down for a week ahah. (bad experience)
it’s really cool the first time you go.
it’s like a bed, but you just pull a cover over you, and they normally dont close ALL the way.
you should do half time on your back, and half time on your stomach.
be careful because it’s really like going to the beach.
but instead it’s like your laying on the sun. (not as hot hot )
you should also get a pair of solarium goggles. you dont need these but if you want you can wear them. stpos the bright light.
just have fun. its a good experience.
just dont get hooked into it and go every single day. try every second day :)
have fun!
xx

I need to get a basic tan for prom (2 months away) but I DON"T want to use tanning beds!
What is a good lotion or cream that works well witout making you super orange!
Or any tips/advice/comments with getting a spray tan?
thanks!

Oh! Victoria Secrets "Beach Sexy" products are really good! You should try it! And it’s not too expensive either. There’s also other things you can use, I’ll link it.

I was gonna say just get a natural tan by going outside and tanning, buuuut I forgot it’s February hahah

Good luck, go look Beach Sexy. ;)

Do tanning beds use Ultra Violet ray lamps to give you a tan? Do you get a "TAN" like you do in sunlight?

You do get a tan, but tanning beds actually use a whole lot more UV rays, using tanning beds too often is unhealthy.

Any good tanning lotions that can be purchased at a drug store?

Theres a dance next weekend at my high school and I was just wondering if you had any recommendations for a good tanning lotion/ spray that will just make my legs look tan for the night…like one that won’t run if im hot or start sweating or get on clothes
p.s. please not super expensive…just one night
Thanks so much!

Kudos for you for considering self-tanner instead of using the sun’s dangerous rays. The problem here is that I have no idea what your skin type is. If you are not sure, take the skin type questionnaire developed by world-renown and board-certified dermatologist Dr. Leslie Baumann. You must register first before you can take the questionnaire. Afterwards, you can visit the specified forum that is tailored to your unique skin type for production recommendation on self-tanners and discussion about sun safety.

For Normal to Oily/Combination, try: Neutrogena Build-A-Tan Gradual Sunless Tanning with with dihydroxyacetone to give you the tan along with Magnesium Aluminum Silicate to soak up sebum. Now do not expect to stay matte for hours because that effect depends on how active your oil glands are. This does contain fragrance, but all the way at the end of the list.

For Normal to Dry, try Alba Botanica Golden Tan Sunless Tanning Lotion with dihydroxyacetone and erythrulose to give you a tan. It contain a generous blend of plant emollients along with anti-irritants and antioxidants. It does contain fragrance, but all the way at the end of the list.

If you want something without fragrance, try Paula’s Choice Almost the Real Thing Self-Tanning Gel, for All Skin Types. It’s gel consistency absorbs well. If you have dry skin, you want to apply a moisturizer over after a few minutes

You MUST wear sunscreen that is suitable for your skin type.

Best wishes

How are tanning beds much worse than tanning in the sun?

I undestand the rays are more concetrated in a tanning bed but you’re only in it for a couple minutes. Everyone says "Don’t use tanning beds unless you like cancer". Do they say the same thing about going outside in the summer?

Tanning beds utilize UVA rays also as known as the rays that don’t burn. UVA penetrates and damages the skin much more than the UVB rays. UVA are also more likely to cause skin cancer because it can change the skin cells’ properties.
Nature aka the sun, has UVA and UVB rays, not UVA concentrated on a much higher level.

Self tanning products are used most often by those who are aware of the health riscks of lying in the sun all day. Tanning salons aren’t the best option either because they are expensive or because they give you the look of being baked. These products offer you a less expensive, safer and faster way to get that healthy tan look. Keep reading for more information on the possibilities availability for self tanning products.

If you have dry skin, you may choose to go with a self tanning type of lotion containing skin moisturizers. The better products of this type give you a tan that is very natural looking. Since some have moisturizers built into it, then if needed you could save on using your regular lotion. Of course the effect is not permanent, and you’ll have to put these lotions on each day. You should also be aware that these lotions have a gradual effect, so if you need an instant tan, they aren’t the best choice. You can, however, achieve a very nice looking tan, over time, and your skin will be assured of retaining moisture. But if gradual is just too slow for you, not a problem, then you’ll want to look at the instant skin bronzers. They come packaged in different forms: bronzing creams, powders, and lotions. The thing to remember about bronzers is they will wash off quickly and easily; and they may either work for you, or not. Do keep that one thing in mind before you go for a swim while wearing the bronze tan. They are quick solutions for those times when you need it for a temporary reason. Ok, so if you want a great looking tan all year round, then the bronzer is definitely not what you need.

Since these are synthetic products, we feel it is a good idea for you to at least read the label before buying. If you have allergies, or are sensitive to any particular chemicals, you should make sure they aren’t included in the product you’re buying. Do you want orange skin? Right, we didn’t think so. Be sure to read the directions for use! You’ll probably need a little time so you can get a good feel for how your skin colors. Going in the other direction with removal is not the same as putting on. If these products have any side effects, they should be listed on the bottle or spray can. Before you take the plunge with any self tanning product, it is good to check for side effects because people are different. It’s really not practical to try all the various self tanning creams and lotions out there. You may color differently from other people, and because of that it’s hard to know which is the right one for you to use. If you can be patient, you will find something eventually that looks really good on you. Our information presented on self tanning products is solid, and you can use it to begin your search for that great tan.

What are some good and cheap indoor tanning lotions and what should I be using after my tanning sessions?

I just started tanning, and I bought a lotion that the receptionist suggested and I like it, but I would rather not pay $40 for a bottle of tanning lotion that will only last a couple of weeks. I am currently using an Australian Gold lotion, but I’m not picky. So any one that you could suggest would be greatly appreciated. :) Thanks! Oh…and I have pretty fair skin naturally.

Here are some tips for you to help you choose the right tanning lotion for you.

When choosing an indoor tanning lotion, you should pay attention to your present level of tanning experience and skin tone. Keep in mind that most products are likely to be labeled for a particular level of tanning and skin type. For instance, some tanning lotions were intended just for advanced tanning. Do not use such products if you are a total beginner or you have a very fair skin. By doing this, you can actually cause damage to your skin. An indoor tanning lotion contains some essential nutrients that are necessary for achieving a deep and natural tan. Even if a tanning lotion may seem to be an expensive item, it can actually save you money and time by providing you with the best tan in fewer indoor tanning sessions.

Good tanning lotions will prevent your skin from being damaged by UV rays. For instance, some antioxidant ingredients such as grapefruit extract and Vitamin E will help your skin and reduce wrinkles and fine lines. The premature aging of your skin will be prevented. By using quality tanning lotions, you will be able to shorten your future tanning sessions because you will be tanning faster. Here are some quality and highly efficient active ingredients you should look for when interested to purchase an indoor tanning lotion

* Methyl Nicotinate because it can accelerate your tanning process

* Antioxidant ingredients

* Natural plant extracts such as aloe or coconut

* Natural plant extracts and essential oils that can nourish and moisturize your skin.
