Why do teens and preteens like to use tanning beds?

I’m writing a report for my summer course on tanning and I would like to know why teens and preteen like to use tanning beds, and would they still use them if they knew the risks that are involved? (premature wrinkles, skin cancer, eye damage, brown spots…) Thank you for your time.
Another question: Have any teens or preteens heard of spray tanning? If so would you consider it as an alternate to tanning beds? Why or why not. Thanks! BTW: all your answer are really helpful.

I use them sometimes, when I don’t have the time to actually SUN tan! I know the risks, but I am willing to take them! Plus, they are way faster than tanning outside in the real sun! 10 min. is equal to 3 hours in the normal sun! Basically, it is just saving your time, instead of wasting it! And the reason we think we have to be tan is because celebrities are giving off the image of " if your white you look bad" and teens tend to go with what celebrities are doing no matter what it is going to do to you in the near future, they are willing to take any risks now that will make them popular, pretty, hot, etc.

I personally use tanning beds because it is fast and easy where as tanning naturally takes time. Not everyone has the time to layout an hour everyday to get the effects a tanning bed gives you in 20 minutes. I hope this helps a little bit. Good luck on your report!
