Why is it that tanning beds make your skin orange? I know some of it has to do with the lotion, but I have tanned without lotion and it still makes my skin a little orange of a tint so I just quit, because it looks gross. Any ideas?
It has a LOT to do with the lotion. If you are turning an orange shade, do not use anything with any kind of bronzer whatsoever. To test the theory, you could try tanning several times with no lotion at all, or you could use 100% aloe vera gel as a lotion.
Because it is a light bulb and not the sun. Nothing that is made to mimic something in nature is going to be quite as good as the original.

white people tan more orange then brown or more red then brown. People with ethnicity, like myself, have more of a different color undertone. For example-I’m half asian, when I tan, my skin gets dark fast, doesnt burn easily, and my color isnt orange, its brown. My fiance is a white boy and when he tans he gets dark, but always has a red tint to his skin when tanned. My mother is white, and when she tan, if she goes long enough, she turns orangey. It all a matter of what you have ethnicity wise. My tanning lotion contains 0 bronzers so I don’t get any artifical tint from the lotion, and believe thats the only kind of lotion that would tint your skin.
