I am very fair. I plan on tanning until I am very dark, or atleast a beautiful natural orange color. How long will it take me to develope a dark tan? Please, no lectures on tanning beds or recommending spray tans, I want a beautiful tan from the beds and I’m going to get one. How many visits do you think it will take me?

When you go to the tanning salon, they should have a variety of "tan accelerator" packets available. This is a lotion you apply directly before getting into the tanning bed that help you get the most from the UV rays. On your first 2 trips to tan, use one designed for very light skin, and don’t stay in the bed for more than 5 minutes, so you don’t burn and end up with a hidous peel! After your tan has developed for about 3 days, go back to the salon and use the accelerator packet designed for medium skin. Then, when you’re ready for your last few sessions, use the one designed for dark skin. It should take about two weeks of tanning once every 3-4 days to get a nice dark tan.

To accentuate your tan after it is complete, use a lotion rich in shea butter or coconut butter.

  3. hey girl. my skin always gets a gold color to it when i tan(i have very little red pigment in my skin :[ ) . So to get the natural orange glow i use a brand of tan accelerator called "SEXY U" they sell it at Sally Beauty supply and its cheaper than the brands sold at the salons (which can run up to 60$, rediculous i know.) if you choose to use this brand start out with the "cafe latte" shade and over 3 weeks work your way up to "chocolate java" then after about six weeks of tanning bump up to "espresso" the esspresso shade contains a compound that causes a warming sensation on your body (from your skin bringing more pigment to the surface)…the stuff with tingle is intollerable to some people bc of the warming sensation being a little too strong…use it with caution apply right before you leave to go to the salon and do not putt accelerator on your face or you’ll be in for a bad burn. Makeup can make a pale face tan.
