I have to wear a prom dress coming up this March. I am a health freak and do not believe in tanning beds. I do however believe in 15plus min. in the sun everyday. I am pale at the moment and im going to be wearing a beautiful yellow dress.
Will tanning beds hurt me if i start tanning this march?
How long do you tan for?
Will i get rubbery skin like most of the girls?
Tanning beds are not dangerous as long as you don’t over expose yourself, so don’t allow yourself to burn. Prolonged over exposure can increase your chances of getting skin cancer but too little UV exposure leads to vitamin D deficiency, which increases your chances of getting other types of cancer like breast, bowel, colon and pancreatic cancer. So it’s 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. In other words, you’re damned if you do and you are damned if you don’t.
You should begin your tanning regime three months out from the date you want to wear your dress. If you only start one month out then you will not give yourself enough time and may end up over-exposing yourself in a rush to get that nice glow. If you start a few months out then you can go in for small amounts of time, every second or third day and by the time you have to wear your dress you will have achieved the same nice glow but without the rush and over-exposure.
A few rules to follow though:
- start out on the shortest time allowed and then each time you visit add one minute to your tanning time, this will help to build up your tolerance to the UV rays
- do not go more often than once every two days
- if you are still red more than 24 hours later then you went in for too long and you should reduce your time
If you are like me then you will find that you will start on 3 minutes and then quickly progress to 6 minutes where you stay for two or three weeks before being able to increase your time again up to around 8 or 9 minutes.
yeah, tanning beds are bad but they wont hurt you extremely for tanning for just a month..
if you really dont believe in them then think about getting a spray tan.
ive never heard of girls getting rubbery skin..
thats never happened to me.
you have to build up on time. the first day you’d tan for 5 minutes normally. depending on your skin type. the next time you’d tan for 6 or 7 minutes and just keep building up the time. in a booth you cant exceed 20 minutes in most places. in a bed you can tan up to 30 minutes, again, in most places.
you have to tan every other day, or if you’re like me you can tan 2 days then not tan one day then tan another 2 days and keep up that cycle until you’re as tan as you want to be.
then you can go maybe once or twice a week to maintain that tan.
you will also have to buy tanning lotion. only the special kind they sell in the tanning place.
you cant use the kind for outdoors.
i recomend using a lotion with bronzer in it. you will look tanner and bronzy.
if you dont use a lotion then you wont get tan and youll have wasted all of your money.

i did a science project on tanning beds, its not safe if u use them regularly but onece in awhile is the safest way if you do use them, tanning lotions and spray tans work just as well and dont harm your skin at all.
tanning beds use very concentrated uva and uvb rays that go into the deeper layers of your skin and can cause premature aging and tanning beds are carcinogens, meaning they can cause cancer.

well im not sure how dangerous they are since i don’t tan but i have heard that they can cause cancer if you tan too much.

if you tan a lot you can get…
premature wrinkles (wrinkles at an early age)
skin cancer (from the radiation)
melanoma
skin cancer doesn’t only come from tanning beds, they can also come from if you are in the sun a lot. (thats why you wear sunscreen
)
you can still tan once in a while, but try not to tan too often because its bad for your skin.

Tanning beds are bad as you could get skin cancer from constant use of it. There was actually a show on A&E about a teenage girl who was so addicted to tanning and by the time she was 21, she got skin cancer. Scary.
Try to use tanning oils instead. Check out this site as they have tons of great tanning products.
